3 Sb2O3 + 2 KBrO3 + 2 HCl → 3 Sb2O5 + 2 HBr + 2 KCl
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
2 BrV + 12 e- → 2 Br-I (reduction)
6 SbIII - 12 e- → 6 SbV (oxidation)
KBrO3 is an oxidizing agent, Sb2O3 is a reducing agent.
Reactants:
- Sb2O3 – Antimony(III) oxide
- KBrO3 – Potassium bromate
- HCl – Chlorane , Hydrogen chloride
- Other names: Hydrochloric acid , M , Uriatic acid
- Appearance: Colorless, transparent liquid, fumes in air if concentrated ; Colorless gas ; Colourless compressed liquefied gas with pungent odour ; Colorless to slightly yellow gas with a pungent, irritating odor. [Note: Shipped as a liquefied compressed gas.]
