3 K2MnO4 + 4 HCl → MnO2 + 2 KMnO4 + 4 KCl + 2 H2O
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
2 MnVI - 2 e- → 2 MnVII (oxidation)
MnVI + 2 e- → MnIV (reduction)
K2MnO4 is both an oxidizing and a reducing agent (disproportionation (dismutation)).
Reactants:
- K2MnO4 – Potassium manganate(VI)
- HCl – Chlorane , Hydrogen chloride
- Other names: Hydrochloric acid , M , Uriatic acid
- Appearance: Colorless, transparent liquid, fumes in air if concentrated ; Colorless gas ; Colourless compressed liquefied gas with pungent odour ; Colorless to slightly yellow gas with a pungent, irritating odor. [Note: Shipped as a liquefied compressed gas.]
