2 FeCl2 + NO2 + 2 HCl → 2 FeCl3 + NO + H2O
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
NIV + 2 e- → NII (reduction)
2 FeII - 2 e- → 2 FeIII (oxidation)
NO2 is an oxidizing agent, FeCl2 is a reducing agent.
