2 NaClO3 (aq) + 4 HCl (aq) → 2 ClO2 (g) + Cl2 (g) + 2 NaCl (aq) + 2 H2O (l)
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
2 Cl-I - 2 e- → 2 Cl0 (oxidation)
2 Cl-I - 10 e- → 2 ClIV (oxidation)
2 ClV + 10 e- → 2 Cl0 (reduction)
2 ClV + 2 e- → 2 ClIV (reduction)
HCl is a reducing agent, HCl is a reducing agent, NaClO3 is an oxidizing agent, NaClO3 is an oxidizing agent.
This is a gas evolution reaction, ClO2 and Cl2 is the formed gas.
