3 Mg + Fe2O3 → 3 MgO + 2 Fe
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
3 Mg0 - 6 e- → 3 MgII (oxidation)
2 FeIII + 6 e- → 2 Fe0 (reduction)
Mg is a reducing agent, Fe2O3 is an oxidizing agent.
Reactants:
- Mg
- Fe2O3 – Iron(III) oxide
